Billboard says these are 10 best songs of the year so far

The Weeknd, Lil Uzi Vert, Drake, and more earn the Billboard nod.

June 29, 2017

Eternal bastion of pop music culture and cold sales ranking station Billboard has posted their staff picks for the best songs of 2017 so far, and you will never in a million years guess who took the top spot. The artit is  definitely not a bad pick though, as we’ve discussed previously.  Here’s the list, for the Facebook video-averse:

10. Selena Gomez – “Bad Liar”

9. The Weeknd – “I Feel It Coming”

8. Khalid – “Location”

7. Lil Uzi Vert – “XO Tour Lif3”

6. Kendrick Lamar – “DNA”

5. Harry Styles – “Sign of the Times”

4. Lorde – “Green Light”

3. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber – “Despacito”

2. Drake – “Passionfruit”

1. Calvin Harris feat. Frank Ocean & Migos – “Slide”

Still the most interesting pop single success story of this year is of course the inescapable reggaeton vibes of  “Despacito,” the first primarily Spanish-language hit to top the Billboard Hot 100 since the Macarena back in 1996. It just recently hit the two-billion view mark on YouTube and is currently in sixth place of the most viewed videos ever, and that in only five months—meaning it’s easily on track to eventually overtake the reigning king. Also curious — their top three picks don’t even have music videos (“Despacito” does, but not for the Justin Bieber remix). Hm!
