Chances are, if you’ve ever had trouble sleeping, tried one of those prickly head massagers or have a friend that’s all in for finding new ways to “blow your mind, dude,” then you’ve probably encountered ASMR.

For the uninitiated, this is  basically what it is:

“Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a previously unstudied sensory phenomenon, in which individuals experience a tingling, static-like sensation across the scalp, back of the neck and at times further areas in response to specific triggering audio and visual stimuli.”

Ok, so maybe it kinda is just a fancy way of saying head orgasms, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a legitimate cultural phenomenon.

From IKEA’s 25-minute ASMR-inspired ad to the world of #ProcessPorn, type “ASMR” into YouTube and you’ll get pages of people breathing heavily, scratching paper and tapping on wood in any voice, tone, volume or environment imaginable.

Search for it at your own peril (or delight).

Leave it to  “Motorsport” queen herself, to Cardi B take a bold step in normalizing ASMR for the masses.

And bringing her favourites along for the ride.

In case you missed it, Cardi B did an ASMR version of her song “Bodak Yellow” on BBC Radio 1 with Charlie Sloth and I guarantee you will never listen to the song in the same way again.

UPDATE (10/22/2018): Cardi B just dropped did another ASMR video for W Magazine. The saga continues…
