Dr. Luke filed “aggressively” expanded defamation countersuit against Kesha

The pop star is facing defamation claims dating all the way back to 2012.

Before #MeToo, female stars speaking out about alleged sexual misconduct had a good chance of landing them in a long, heated legal battle, with no better evidence of victims’ reluctance to come forward than the legal troubles that have followed Kesha since 2014. Though the four years since Kesha came out against her producer Dr. Luke with allegations of him “sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally” abusing her have been filled with inspiring and unwavering support from her fans and the general public alike, that sympathy has so far failed to extend to the legal system, which, after a number of unfortunate rulings in Luke’s favour continues to worsen.

The latest turn of events in the legal war between Kesha and Dr. Luke is the producer hitting the singer back with a defamation countersuit based on her outspoken claims and their failure to hold up in a court of law. Though this defamation countersuit was expected, the one filed by Luke appears to have been “aggressively” expanded in the grievances it covers, attempting to ding Kesha for dozens of incidents dating all the way back to 2012.

Luke’s expanded countersuit is to support his case that Kesha’s accusations were “game-planned for maximum exposure” as a part of a smear campaign on the singer’s behalf that she orchestrated to free her from recording contracts between the two. The ball sadly remains in Luke’s court in this legal battle, as an attempt in March 2017 by Kesha to amend her original allegations were overturned, though Luke’s countersuit case has yet to be approved to make it to trial.
