Kesha’s legal battle against Dr. Luke hits another roadblock

Kesha's appeal to the New York courts was deemed “devoid of merit.”

May 30, 2018

The years-long legal battle between Kesha and her past collaborator/alleged abuser Dr. Luke continues to rage on, and after a hearing yesterday, is only growing further complicated.

Kesha’s attempts to extradite herself from pre-arranged contracts with her longtime producer Dr. Luke, after a long saga that began in 2014 after the singer came forward with accusations of sexual abuse at the hands of Luke only to be sued for defamation, which was first overturned by a judge in 2017. Kesha then brought the counterclaim to a New York appeals court that yesterday further ruled her claims as being “devoid of merit.”

Kesha’s countersuit toward Dr. Luke argued that “you can get a divorce from an abusive spouse, you can dissolve a partnership if the relationship becomes irreconcilable. The same opportunity — to be liberated from the physical, emotional, and financial bondage of a destructive relationship — should be available to a recording artist.” Sadly, the court did not agree.

These dismissals are not only the latest roadblock the singer has faced in her attempts to have her alleged abuser tried in front of a court of law – the may be the biggest, as now, barring any further appeals, the only claims being considered as this case moves forward are Dr. Luke’s defamation accusations toward Kesha.

This news arrives jut as Kesha is prepping for the summer leg of her Rainbow tour, which hopefully by the time it wraps up, will see the singer catching a much-needed break when it comes to putting this whole situation – and toxic partnership – behind her.
