Never one to shy away from futuristic, otherworldly influences, Valerie Anne Poxleitner AKA Lights has launched her a single off her upcoming album, Skin & Earth in expectedly innovation fashion. With her breakout single, “Drive my Soul,” approaching its 10-year anniversary, the Timmins, Ontario artist has not only become symbolic of a particular moment in Canadian music history—sandwiched between the the post-indie Canadiana and pre-Grimes era—but has also consistently reestablished the boundaries of her own music.

In a recent announcement, she revealed that the previously-released single “Giants,” would have a version in not one, not two, not three, but four different languages. Singing in English, French, Tagalog and Spanish, the new song arrives alongside an interactive, online scavenger hunt and a 6-part comic book series that Poxleitner wrote and drew herself.

She describes the narrative approach of the album and comics below:

Skin & Earth is a story of a girl looking for hope in a hopeless world. Caught between romance and cults, gods and mortals, and just trying to find a good borscht, Enaia Jin is lead down a dark path by new lovers that reveal a twisted fantasy world and her own true nature.

Set in a post-apocalyptic future where corporations rule, this adventurous tale of loneliness, deceit and self-discovery begins here.
