The 2017 Polaris Prize short list is here!

Feist! Gord Downie! BadBadNotGood! This year's list is incredible.

July 13, 2017

The Polaris Prize is a labour of love. Every year, for large chunks of the year, Canada’s music scene toils behind the scenes, discussing (okay, arguing) about the country’s best albums of the year in the hopes of narrowing down thousands of nominees on a quest to find the next Polaris Prize winner. It all ends in September, where a deserving artist will be handed a well earned novelty sized cheque for $50,000.

To this point, the list had been squeezed down to 40, and today, the long list got a little bit shorter. Announced live on Facebook, here’s the 2017 Polaris Prize short list.

A Tribe Called Red – We Are The Halluci Nation

Leonard Cohen – You Want It Darker

Gord Downie – Secret Path

Feist – Pleasure

Lisa LeBlanc – Why You Wanna Leave, Runaway Queen?

Lido Pimienta – La Papessa

Tanya Tagaq – Retribution

Leif Vollebekk – Twin Solitude

Weaves – Weaves

The winner will be announced on September 18th at the Carlu in Toronto. See you there?
