10 obsolete audio technologies that we want back

How do you listen to music? If you’ve been alive for more than 10 years, chances are it’s changed at some point. Most of us remember moving from tapes to CDs to MP3s, confident at each step that we were following the path of progress. But as format wars of the past have shown—most famously, the decline of Betamax in the 1970s—the best product doesn’t always win. Not to mention, returning to obsolete audio technologies can recreate old ways of hearing music that had their own charms but are now lost to time. Here are some that we wish we could still use, whether in pursuit of better sound or just a fun listening experience.
