PREMIERE: Watch Germaphobes’ new video for “Married Girls”

Enter the void of a warped dating game hallucination.

July 24, 2015

Germaphobes is the latest sophisti-pop project spearheaded by Toronto’s Paul Erlichman and Neil Rankin. You may recognize these gallant goofballs as members of the janglophile music video virtuosos Gay or from Erlichman’s slyly consonant-shifting solo project Elrichman, providing one of 2014’s essential summer jams.

Following the shimmering psychic visions of their first video, “Michael Ondaatje’s World”, Germaphobes are back with something a bit more freaky deeky. This VHS flashback directed by Mike Reynolds with editing and graphic assistance from James Waters features the songwriting duo performing multiple roles in a slightly warped dating game scenario. Erlichman’s characters include Ryan the centre forward, Clive the professor of natural studies, and Rutger the manager at Winners. Creepiest of all, the video begins with a cameo from X-Files character actor Robert Farmer.

Germaphobes are currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album. Enter the void below.
