PREMIERE: Watch Kennedy Cult’s new video “Sick of Me Too”

June 22, 2015

Peterborough & Ottawa-based eighties worshippers Kennedy Cult have a new EP, American Spirits, out on Sympathy Club, and first single “Sick of Me Too” now has a suitably moody music video, which we’re premiering below.

Kennedy Cult formed in 2013 in their hometown of Peterborough, Ontario, and it wasn’t long before they found an audience for their melancholy tunes and that signature chorus-ed out bass tone, and ended up embarking on a nationwide tour.┬áLike-minded bands such as Black Marble and Cold Cave also mine the emotive post-punk of the ’80s to similar effect, but the Kennedy Cults’ polished, high-gloss approach leaves them sounding like more than just an echo of the Bunnymen.

Directed by Rob Viscardis and inspired by Anton Corbjin and The Cure’s Robert Smith (natch), the video depicts slow-mo upwards tracking shot of singer Ryan Kennedy, coming off like a dourer version of D’Angelo in “Untitled”. Check it out here:
