Track Of The Week: “Coffee” by Sylvan Esso

April 18, 2014

Sylvan Essohave been all over the blogs in the last couple of months and for good reason. Myself, like many other bloggers, have fallen for this duo’s catchy sound. The band is a collaboration betweenvocalist Amelia Meath and electronic musician Nick Sanborn. Meath’s powerful voice is front and center, unjoined by fellow harmonizers as it is in her folk group, Mountain Man. Sanborn (bass in Megafaun) creates intricate, pulsing grooves for Meath’s voice to inhabit.

I’ve heard a handful of songs, via 12″ records that have been released lately. Partisan Records will release the bands’ self-titled debut LP on May 13, 2014.

Take a listen to “Coffee”.

The video was directed by Dan Huiting and set in a few different eras. Dancing is the theme as it visits an Appalachian contra-dance, a proper Durham, NC house party, and also a ’50s-era sock-hop.
